EFNW’s SUDEP Northwest is a support, education and awareness program for people in the Northwest impacted by Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. SUDEP Northwest is composed of a network of family members and friends who have lost loved ones to epilepsy. These courageous family members and friends have stepped forward to honor their loved ones by providing public education about SUDEP at conferences, distributing fliers to the community, and by telling their personal story to others. They support those who have lost a loved one by connecting them to resources and conveying their own experiences of losing someone to SUDEP.
EFNW’s SUDEP Northwest is part of a large growing national awareness and education initiative bringing together various agencies and professions to better understand SUDEP and advocate for more research around SUDEP. The national Epilepsy Foundation SUDEP Institute is leading the way to champion education to medical professionals involved and to support community based programs. Partners Against Mortality in Epilepsy (P.A.M.E.) is a coalition of epilepsy agencies that have come together to hold national bi-annual conferences specifically focused on SUDEP. Various other national and international organizations are now involved to make sure SUDEP continues to be at the forefront of epilepsy education, community programs and research.
